Diesel Engine Basics
There are many types of these engines, known as two-stroke and four-stroke. A lot of engines that run on diesel fuel are four-stroke, and other larger engines operate with a two-stroke cycle. There are three main groups in the two kinds of diesel engines.
– Small engines have an output of about 188 kilowatts. Small diesel engines are the most commonly used and produced. You could find them in automobiles, smaller trucks, and a few construction or agricultural equipment. They are also used as mechanical drives in some tiny electrical-powered generators.
– Medium engines have an output of around 188 to 750 kilowatts. These are usually placed in heavy trucks.
– Large diesel engines have an average output of over 750 kilowatts. They’re powerful and found in the mechanical, marine, industrial, and locomotive industries
