Winter weather around most of the country can be unforgiving, which is why a lot of us depend on a reliable heating oil delivery service to keep our homes, businesses, and fleets warm and our buildings safe. There are a few simple steps you may be able to take to help minimize delivery delays because of inclement weather to ensure your home or business stays nice and warm throughout the winter. Read on to learn more!
Plan in Advance for Winter Fuel
Whenever there is an intense snowstorm on the horizon, requests for fuel deliveries tend to jump significantly. Since these are some of the most busy times of fuel providers, there is always the possibility of a delay in the normal delivery schedule. Do not get stuck worrying that your fleet might not have any fuel. Keep a very close eye on your fuel levels, and request a delivery BEFORE your tanks reach the ¼ level. If your tank is getting close to this level and bad weather is coming, schedule a delivery around three days in advance.
Prepare Your Driveway
Once the winter snow starts to fall, there is no stopping it. Prepare in advance by staking the edges of your driveway with a brightly-colored marker or reflecting markers. This way, if there is fresh snow on the ground, fuel delivery drivers can properly navigate their big trucks down the marked path, even if they have poor visibility. Be aware that it can be hard to get markers into the ground once the ground has frozen, so we recommend marking your driveway in advance of the next storm when the soil might be softer. After the snowstorm has hit, make sure you get out and shovel your driveway as soon as possible. Winter Fuel delivery drivers might not be able to make a delivery if your driveway is completely covered in snow or ice. Clearing out your driveway will help avoid any unnecessary delay and potential re-delivery fees.
